Sustainability at Sikuki
The green transition is central to our sustainability efforts – but for us, sustainability is also about people, society, and responsible governance. As Greenland’s largest port operator, we work actively to reduce our climate footprint, create a safe and inclusive workplace, take responsibility in the local community, and ensure transparent and ethical business practices. In this way, we contribute to a more sustainable future – for the port, for our employees, and for society.
Our sustainability program is built around four strategic focus areas. They reflect both the opportunities and the responsibilities we hold. Within these areas, we work purposefully and with a long-term perspective to create value – for the climate, for our employees, for society, and for responsible business operations.
Enviornment and climate – the port as a driver of the green transistion
At Sikuki, we have a unique opportunity and a great responsibility to influence
development in a sustainable direction. Our operations impact shipping,
infrastructure, and activities around the port, and therefore, we must lead the
way with solutions that reduce emissions, promote the use of shore power, and
ensure a cleaner port environment. We see it as our duty to inspire and uplift
the entire sector around us so that port operations can contribute to a green
transition that benefits both Nuuk and the rest of Greenland.
Workplace and People – wellbeing, safety, and development at the core
We strive to be an attractive workplace where employees thrive in a meaningful and safe
environment. Therefore, we invest in skills development, equality, and an
inclusive culture built on local anchoring and shared responsibility. By
focusing on wellbeing, safety, and learning, we foster a strong community where
every employee has the opportunity to grow and develop throughout their career.
Governance – integrity and responsible business practices
Trust is a prerequisite for operating critical national infrastructure. That is why we are
committed to high ethical standards, strong governance, and fair
decision-making processes in both our daily operations and in collaboration
with partners and suppliers. We aim to take the lead in fostering transparency
and integrity in Greenland’s business community – with accountability,
responsible leadership, and clear values as the foundation for all our
decisions.
Society and Value Chain – responsible port operations
Our activities impact people and local communities beyond our organization, and we take shared responsibility for the consequences of port operations. We work to ensure responsible practices throughout the value chain and to ensure that the port’s infrastructure and development are shaped in close dialogue with society. In this way, we contribute to local employment, safety, and development – so that port operations benefit Greenland both today and in the future.
transparency and reporting
We monitor our initiatives closely and work with concrete goals and KPIs across all four focus areas. Results and progress are reported annually in our ESG report, which is an integrated part of our annual report. In this way, we create transparency around both progress and challenges in our sustainability efforts.
CSR Greenland
Sikuki Nuuk Harbour has in 2016 joined CSR Greenland. Thus, the port will be part of a larger network with strong ties, and can further contribute to a sustainable society.
CSR Greenland and its member companies work on the basis of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, and the UN Global Compact Guidelines for Corporate Responsibility, with a particular focus on education, health and the environment.
Sikuki will as far as possible follow CSR Greenland’s priorities and actions will be based on events in the partnership.
