Sikuki Nuuk Harbour A/S, Joint Arctic Command, and the Government of Greenland have entered into an agreement that grants Joint Arctic Command priority access to part of an upcoming new port expansion in Nuuk.
The expansion aims to relieve the general shortage of port space in the city, and a public tender is expected later this year. Until now, Joint Arctic Command has shared quay facilities with cruise ships and trawlers in the busy port, which has increasingly posed logistical challenges for the Command.
The upcoming tender covers a total of 350 meters of quay. Of these, 200 meters will be established as a Trawler Terminal. The remaining 150 meters will be constructed as a dual-use quay, where Joint Arctic Command will have priority access. When Joint Arctic Commandβs vessels are on duty elsewhere, other users will be able to use the facilities.
The collaboration will strengthen both emergency preparedness and Greenlandβs maritime infrastructure β to the benefit of the maritime industries.
