Sikuki Nuuk Harbour is pleased to announce that this year’s planned dredging of the shipping channel to the Port of Kangerlussuaq has been completed. The improved conditions will significantly increase docking opportunities for all harbour users as early as the start of the 2025 docking season.
The dredging is carried out by Polar Dive on behalf of the Government of Greenland. The work is performed using a dredger that Polar Dive has acquired from the Netherlands for this purpose.
This year’s dredging included the shipping channel, which has now been widened to 24 meters and deepened to between 3.5 and 5 meters MV. In addition, the entire harbour basin and a larger area west of the harbour have been dredged to 5 meters MV. This effort has resulted in the channel being fully navigable again, and smaller vessels can now dock at the quay.
The dredging will be completed in 2025, and operations are expected to resume as soon as possible after the winter. The final phase will include widening the channel to a total width of 38 meters and a minimum depth of 4.5 meters MV.
